A stone’s throw from Bathurst and a few hours’ drive to Sydney, Orange is in perfect proximity for that country-city balance. Enjoy the charm of the country during the week, and when you need some down-time from study, you can just jump in the car and head to the big smoke for the weekend. Or stay in Orange. There’s even an ancient volcano – Gaanha Bula (Mount Canobolas) – which provides a dramatic backdrop for the city. If you’re hoping to see the glow of hot lava, however, you might be disappointed as the dormant volcano last erupted eleven million years ago. However, the Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area does offer birdwatching, walking, scenic views and a great campground.

There are plenty of activities for you to fill your weekends when you live and study at Orange. Picnic at Lake Canobolas Reserve, visit the Regional Gallery or explore the Heritage Trail.
