Are you after a complete lifestyle overhaul, not just a profession? Think working remotely from Instagrammable destinations is just for influencers?
Let your wildest career dreams enter the chat. And give that side-hustle main-character energy. Because striking a work-life balance and earning a real salary in a job you love is possible – thanks to digital nomad jobs.
(That’s right, you don’t need to survive off gifted meal kits and hotel stays to work from anywhere!)
What is a digital nomad?

A digital nomad is someone who lives (and works) a nomadic lifestyle. Digital nomads use technologies – such as laptops and wi-fi – to work remotely and live location-independently.
While popular digital nomad jobs like content creator, entrepreneur and virtual assistant have taken off in recent years, you aren’t limited to travel writing or vlogging to nab a coveted digital nomad job. (Although there is plenty of opportunity for creatives to work from anywhere in the world).
Whether you want to work full-time or part-time. From a tropical paradise or atop a mountain range. Or you want to find solitude in the outback, there are loads of flexible – not to mention well-paid – digital nomad jobs. So you can decide how your ‘office’ should look.
Better yet, all you’ll need to start your digital nomad career is a laptop, a reliable internet connection and the right degree to unlock location-independent work opportunities. So it’s as easy as one, two, I’m free!
Why choose a digital nomad job?

If your surroundings become your energy, you thrive on mixing things up, or you easily get stuck in a rut, then a digital nomad job could be a good fit. Here are some reasons why going remote can be a great idea.
Work-life balance
Strike the right balance between work and leisure. And make the most of what your destination of choice has to offer.
Cost of living
Why go without or live from week to week when you can just make a sea change? Stretch your pay further by relocating to areas or countries with a lower cost of living, as remote workers often do (consider Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, and beyond).
Freedom of choice
From where and when you work, to setting your own schedule, the digital nomad lifestyle can give you the ultimate in flexibility.
Give it 110%
Perform better when you actually enjoy what you do and where you’re doing it from? Cos same! Working in an environment you love can really boost your performance. What’s more motivating than the creature comforts of WFH or overlooking the ocean, mountains or cityscapes while you bash out that report?
Grow your community
Build professional networks online. And make connections from co-working spaces and online nomad communities. Give yourself a truly global perspective and broaden your horizons!

How to become a digital nomad
Before you jump on a plane and start living your dream career, there are a few logistics you’ll want to have sorted out.
Visas
Make sure you understand and meet any visa requirements. If you plan to stay for a short time, a tourist visa may suit your needs. Planning on staying in a country for six to 12 months? A digital nomad visa is for digital nomads or remote workers employed by companies outside of the host country. They can also cover freelancers who have international clients. The good news? Almost 50 countries recognise the digital nomad visa if you meet the eligibility criteria.
Tech
When it comes to digital nomad tech, it’s important that you have the essentials you need to get work done. Lightweight, durable and multifunctional equipment is recommended. You’ll want a reliable, high-performing laptop, a good set of noise-cancelling headphones to help you focus, and a reliable VPN (virtual private network). A VPN is essential for ensuring a secure internet connection. Digital eSIMs are another good way to stay connected and can save you from having to track down a physical SIM card in each new country. Power banks and external storage are also great ideas.
Insurance
The old saying “it’s better to be safe than sorry” has never been truer than for a digital nomad. It’s important you have the right kind of insurance to keep you, your gear and your income safe should misadventure arise. Firstly, you’ll want to have adequate international health/medical insurance to cover any hospital stays, emergency medical treatment and any other health bills that pop up while you’re overseas.
Travel insurance is a must to cover things like trip cancellations, lost luggage or travel delays. Since you’ll be travelling with your tech, you’ll want to ensure you have gadget/electronics insurance. Laptops and phones can be expensive to replace! Finally, consider personal liability insurance to cover legal, medical or property damages caused to third parties while working internationally. Always, always, always read the fine print and have a full understanding of what you are and what you’re not insured for with any insurance policy you take out.
Locations
Aside from choosing your ultimate workplace destination, you’ll need to factor in a few other things, including the weather and seasonal patterns. Deciding on a digital nomad location depends on your budget, work requirements and overall lifestyle preference. Consider your monthly income and weigh it against expenses such as rent, food, coworking space fees, insurance and other incidentals. You’ll also want to choose a location with reliable internet.
